The Samsung Galaxy S7 may be the first smartphone to be launched with Qualcomm’s new flagship processor, the Snapdragon 820

The Samsung Galaxy S7 may be the first smartphone to be launched with Qualcomm’s new flagship processor, the Snapdragon 820. It is also rumored that Samsung will have exclusive rights on the Snapdragon 820 until April 2016. This partnership is not too surprising considering the fact that Samsung’s facilities manufacture the chipset using its 14nm FinFet process. Samsung uses the same process on its upcoming Exynos 8890 chipset. The Samsung Galaxy S7 has been tipped to be launched in multiple variants, one powered by a Snapdragon 820 SoC and another with Exynos 8890.

Samsung has reportedly been testing the Snapdragon 820 and a few months ago, rumors began circulating that the company was running into heating issues with the phone. However, Qualcomm China refuted these rumors. It posted a statement on its Weibo account saying that the chipset meets Qualcomm’s design specifications and that the chipset will continue to be improved.

A few days ago, sources told The Wall Street Journal that the Samsung Galaxy S7 would come with a pressure sensitive display and a USB Type-C port. The publication also said that some versions would come with a retina scanner and the company may announce the phone in February, during the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona. WSJ also said that the smartphone’s camera will be optimised for low light light photography. Samsung has already applied for a patent for a pressure sensitive display which is similar to 3D Touch technology used in the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Last month, the company unveiled a new camera called BRITECELL, which focuses on improving image quality in low light conditions. The company also claims that the new camera is 17% thinner than other cameras.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 isn’t the only Snapdragon 820 powered phone tipped to launch early next year. Rumors suggest that Xiaomi may launch the Mi 5 in February. The phone was also briefly listed on Oppomart. As per the listing, the phone comes with a Snapdragon 820 SoC with a 5.5-inch 2K display. It may have 4GB of RAM and is tipped to be available in three storage variants, 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB.

Sundar Pichai: If not Google CEO, I would still build software

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said even if he was not the chief executive of the internet search giant, he would still have been building software products.
India-born Pichai revealed this in response to a question asked by a student during a Q&A session at SRCC in Delhi University. He is on his first trip outside the US since becoming the CEO of Google.
Talking about where Pichai sees Google in next 30 years, he said he hopes that the company is still working on products that solve problems for the whole of humanity. He added this ethos of helping humanity using technology is why he was drawn to Google in the first place.
Responding to a question on how his vision for Google differed from that of company co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Pichai said that he shares the same aspirations for the company as the two founders. Therefore, he shares most approaches in problem-solving with them than not, even though there are some differences of opinion.
Answering why Google has never named Android after an Indian dessert (all Android versions are named after desserts), Pichai jokingly said the company may hold an online poll while naming the next version of the mobile OS.

Responding to host Harsha Bhogle's question about how Google plans to stay relevant in this time of change, Pichai said everything changes at a fast pace in the world of technology and there is a need to keep reinventing to remain relevant. He said the PCs were just getting underway in the 1980s, while internet as we know it came into being 10 years later. A decade later came smartphones and Android was not even in the market at the time. So reinventing itself and keeping abreast of change will help Google remain relevant in coming times.

Why Millennials Don’t Want To Become Mark Zuckerberg Anymore

A survey conducted by Harvard University’s Institute of Politics has revealed some striking facts about the Millennials. The poll shows that 18-to-29-year-olds are more inclined towards a secure job, defying the notion that Millennials dream to become entrepreneurs like Mark Zuckerberg.

Millennials, also termed as the Generation Y, are often perceived as a highly educated, independent, and a group of diverse group of young people. The latest poll by the Washington Post and Harvard University’s Institute of Politics have outlined another striking trait of the 18-to-29-year old individuals.
The poll suggests that the Generation Y is looking to find a good job at some established company. This finding is opposite to the notion that Millennials are only attracted to the Hollywood-like success stories of young entrepreneurs.

The survey, conducted by Harvard, reveals that starting a new business and becoming an entrepreneur is the top-most priority or “very important” for just 31 percent Millennials. Surprisingly, more than half of them had a different aim i.e. a stable job with some vacation time.

This answer could be directly connected to other questions that deal with spending time with family/friends and job stability. About 85 percent people called spending time with family and friends the important part of their lives. About the job stability, 53 percent Millennials want a job that offers stability even though it’s boring.

Only 24 percent of the participants said that they want to make a career in the field that benefits the society. Talking about the characters they admire the most, mere 11 percent respondents preferred Mark Zuckerberg while 27 percent chose Steve Jobs.

So, what could be the possible reasons? Why are independent Millennials obsessed with security? As outlined by Inc., the reasons include the burden of student loans, growing instability in the world, and concrete knowledge of things that could really earn billions.

Split-screen support rumored for Android 6.1 release in June

Android 6.0.1 is still fresh out of the oven, but a new rumor will leave many craving next year’s Android 6.1 release. A new rumor claims that Google is planning to bake in a few enhancements for app permissioning and split-screen app support into Android 6.1 when it’s released next June. Android 6.1 is expected to be a minor update and will carry the Marshmallow label, so we’ll likely be treated to an even bigger release in the second half of 2016.

An early version of multi-windows functionality was actually hidden away in the Android M preview build. It allowed users to choose between multiple screen layouts which pinned two apps side-by-side or four apps in a grid layout. The functionality can be seen in the video below. Split screen or multi-window support (we’re not sure what the final name will actually be) will certainly improve the functionality or Android tablets, but it’ll likely be heavily used on smartphones as sell since many people now use devices with displays that are 5.5-inches or larger.

While we’re delighted to hear that split-screen support in Android is finally on its way, the rumor’s timeline for Android 6.1′s release conflicts with a rumor regarding HTC’s 2016 flagship phone – the HTC Perfume. According to @LlabTooFeR, the HTC Perfume is expected to launch with Android 6.1. Since the retail launch of HTC’s flagship phones typically fall between late March and the end of April, Android 6.1 would need to be released sooner or the HTC Perfume would launch before the software is available. At this point, it’s impossible to know how things will play out.

According to a study conducted by Schneider Electric India, high awareness among consumers about smart homes, which is almost universal in metros and upper-end segments, will drive the growth for smart home solutions in future. The segment is expected to witness a growth of 30% year-on-year, it said.
A smart home is an automated house with various electrical connections, functions and facilities that can be connected to a smartphone or a computer and controlled by it.
